Police later learned that the suspect assaulted the employee after allegedly sexually assaulting a female within the establishment.

A Winooski man is behind bars after police say he assaulted an employee at a popular bar and lounge on Church Street.

Burlington police were called to Einstein's Tap House just after midnight on Monday morning after receiving a report that a patron had hurt an employee.

The employee also reported that they recovered a firearm from one of the suspects and were unsure if a second suspect was also armed.

An officer made contact with 26-year-old Hasan Williams, who refused to allow the officer to secure a bag he was carrying to check for a firearm.

The officer said Williams attempted to unzip and reach into the bag, which caused a struggle between the two.

The officer was punched in the face during the altercation but was able to get the bag away from Williams with help from reinforcements. A loaded handgun was found inside the bag. Williams is prohibited from possessing a firearm, according to police.

Police later learned that Williams assaulted the employee after allegedly sexually assaulting a female within the establishment.

Williams was charged with sexual assault and several other charges.

On Monday, he deferred entering a plea and will have a full arraignment on Tuesday. He is being held without bail.

An investigation is ongoing. NBC5 has reached out to the Burlington Police Department to learn more information about the potential second suspect mentioned in the media release.
